Culture & Heritage

PENYAYANG subscribes to the promotion of Malaysian culture, arts & heritage. In full realisation of its constraints and limitations, PENYAYANG will only focus on identified facets of Malaysian culture, ads and heritage at any one time. However, at the same time PENYAYANG will try to support other initiatives at promoting Malaysian culture, arts and heritage in ways which are within its capacity.

Mission
To revive and restore Malaysian culture, arts and heritage to what they were in their days of glory.

Objectives

  • To identify facets of Malaysian culture, arts and heritage that can be promoted and developed.
  • To support local initiatives at promoting and developing Malaysian culture, ads and heritage in possible ways.
  • To implement programmes which complement the efforts of the Ministry of Culture, Arts and Heritage at promoting and developing Malaysian culture, arts and heritage.

Programmes:
All programmes are designed to complement the programmes of the Ministry of Culture, Arts and Heritage. PENYAYANG has identified (i) the revival of the nyonya kebaya and (ii) the promotion of the batik industry as facets to work on. A travelling exhibition of the Nyonya Kebaya is an on-going activity.

The Malaysia Batik: Crafted for the World Movement is actively & aggressively implementing programmes for the promotion of the local batik industry. This movement was launched on the 8th of September 2003.

PENYAYANG lends its support to local theatre and is involved as a founding member of KL Performing Arts Centre (KLPAC) or Pentas Seni Kuala Lumpur.

As for other facets of culture, arts and heritage, PENYAYANG gives annual grants to deserving initiatives.
